Dhamma Hall
The most urgent project to be completed is constructing a Dhamma Hall.
Despite historical significance and the communal service, the temple remains under-developed. The elements of a temple such as Dhamma Hall, Shrine Room and Relic House (dhatu mandira) etc are not yet built. The reason is poor living condition of the devotees. Hambantota District is one of under-developed district in the country. So, Bandaririya village has seriously been affected by poverty and under-development. Consequently, it is very difficult for the public to afford constructing temple complex elements.
An Educational and Community Centre
By constructing a Dhamma Hall, we expect to provide the services mainly to children and elder community in the village. The lack of a suitable shelter for students who attend Sunday Dhamma School (dahama pasala), has been a burning issue for several years. There is no proper building that can host Sunday school children. So, they are exposed to both sun and rain sometimes. Specially, dry weather in the area is unbearable. By day time, heat goes high.
At the moment, there are more than two hundred Sunday School students and many more students are seeking admission but we cannot admit them due to lack of facilities.
Further, Dhamma Hall will serve the elders and devotees to convene and engage in religious activities. Specially, on full moon days (Poya days), many people come to temple to observe precepts, to listen to dhamma talks and to meditate.
In addition to functioning as a Buddhist activity centre, the Dhamma Hall will provide space to other communal activities.
Difficulty of Getting Funds
Under the current economic crisis going on in Sri Lanka, it is extremely difficult to get funds from the public and the government inside the country. Therefore, we expect generous support from fellow Buddhist countries, Organizations and individual donations. And also, support from persons who are active in promoting human development irrespective of religion, culture, and ethnicity etc. With much hope, we seek both local and foreign sources for financial support to complete this invaluable project.
